French ambassador thanks Greece over Notre Dame support

By 5 years ago

France's ambassador to Greece Christophe Chantepy spoke to Greek media yesterday, Tuesday and expressed his appreciation for the messages of friendship, solidarity and love sent by Greeks regarding the catastrophic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Monday night.

Chantepy called the fire a tragedy for Paris, for France and for all those who love Paris and France, as well as for many more people globally.

The ambassador said that Notre Dame is a powerful symbol and a big part of French history. The Gothic monument, he explained, is linked with the most important moments of the country's history, including the liberation of Paris in 1944.

Chantepy conveyed French President Emmanuel Macron's commitment to "rebuild Notre Dame together," and the president's announcement of a domestic and international donation campaign for the project.
