By 5 years ago

A trial run of the route between the railway stations of Kiato and Aigion in the Peloponnese will take place today, Wednesday, April 17, in the presence of Thanos Vourdas, secretary general of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport & Networks.

The try-out, which is the first after eight years of halting routes due to construction, comes ahead of the completion of the new high-speed dual rail line between Kiato and Rododafni.

The test run is a section of a 70 km railway line that extends from the last stop at Kiato, comprising three new stations in Xylokastro, Akrata and Aegio and six stops at Diminio, Lykoporia, Lygia, Platanos Beach, Diakopto and Eliki.

ErgOSE, which manages the modernization of railway lines and train facilities in Greece, completed the construction of 6 tunnels of a total length of 11 km, 8 tunnels of 1,700 m in total length, 19 railway bridges, 63 underpasses and 10 overpasses, thus allowing the development of high-speed trains travelling at over 200 km per hour.
