By 5 years ago

Greece's Defense Minister, Evangelos Apostolakis attended Serbia's Victory Day military parade which marked the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in the city of Nis on Friday.

During his visit Apostolakis also met with his counterpart Aleksandar Vulin, with whom he discussed Serbia's participation in HELBROC, EU's Balkan Battlegroup, a rapid response multinational force led by Greece and also comprising Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus and Ukraine. Serbia joined HELBROC in 2017.

The Balkan Battle Group is part of the European Fighting Group, of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), formerly known as the European Security and Defense Policy.

This institution was formerly within NATO but was later placed under the jurisdiction of the EU.

Apostolakis and Vulin also discussed existing bilateral military cooperation with an emphasis on the Balkan region.
