Earthquake in Central Greece shakes Athens

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was reported at 00:54 on Thursday the 13th of June, near Atalanti in the prefecture of Fthiotida in Central Greece.

Initial reports from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre in France said the focal depth of the earthquake was estimated at 2 km.

The earthquake took place 21km north of Leivadia, 52km southeast of Lamia and 100km north of Athens and was felt in all those regions.

The Geodynamic Institute at the Athens Observatory says the earthquake had a focal depth of 13.6 km, and a focal point of 8 km west-southwest of Atalanti.

Although the earthquake was short in duration, it was felt by residents in several regions. No injuries or damages have been reported.
