Greek singer-songwriter Hellena has released an inspiring composition entitled "The Parthenon Marbles – Bring Them Back” and performed it live in the British Museum's Parthenon Gallery on Thursday June 20.
"I am releasing a song to be my vocal protest for the Parthenon Marbles to return to where they belong and join the remainder still residing in their rightful home, Greece. Having one of the most important artefacts in the world torn in two like that, is an act against civilization, a sacrilege and disrespectful to nations and art. @britishmuseum museum you have to do the right thing and give back the Parhenon Marbles that the British ambassador Lord Elgin looted against Greece's will," she posted on social media.
The song which was released on June 20, has already gone viral on social media. The date of release is also of significance, as it marked the 10th anniversary since the opening of the Acropolis Museum in Athens, which is still waiting for the return of the Parthenon Marbles back from the British Museum.
The new song speaks about this issue in depth, with passion and honesty. Sharing her honest feelings about the defacement of the Parthenon by Lord Elgin, Hellena in her lyrics sings her emotional plea to the British Museum to "bring them back in one piece, Back to Greece".
"If you are a fan of the arts and believe that cultural heritage is important, please share and spread the word about this cultural theft, a wrong perpetrating for more than 200 years with the British museum keeping looted artefacts!," she further added on social media.
