Greek Cyclist Christos Volikakis won two gold medals at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus in the cycling events.

The cyclist from Volos won two gold (in the points race and scratch race), and also had a fifth-place finish in the omnium.

“The feeling of victory is amazing. In my last races, I realised that I am in very good shape, but in cycling, many unpredictable factors play a role. I came to Minsk, I believed in myself and I won the gold medal,” Volikakis said after the race.

Volikakis was arguably Greece’s best competitor, and he was rewarded by being the Greek flag bearer for the closing ceremony.

The 2nd European Games took place in Minsk, Belarus, as Greece finished with nine medals in six different sports.

Another big highlight for the Greek team was Anna Korakaki’s performance in the shooting events. The 2016 Olympic gold and bronze medalist won another two medals here. First, she captured a silver in the 10 m air pistol, and then took the gold in the 25 m pistol. The 23-year-old from Drama, Macedonia also competed in three mixed shooting events with her younger brother, Dionysios, failing to win a medal together.
