A large firefighting force has been battling a major blaze on the island of Evia since yesterday and after a water-dropping aircraft finally started to control the blaze,
three new fires have occurred simultaneously this morning, in the municipality of Kymi-Aliveri.
According to Evia Vima, residents of Makrichori, near the coastal town of Kymi, were evacuated on Thursday, amid fears that strong winds could shift the direction of the blaze and put them at risk and the efforts of firefighters were being hampered by the strong winds.
More than 100 firefighters and nine water-dropping aircraft were dispatched to the scene on Thursday, with Kostas Bakoyannis visiting the area and sending additional help.
Currently, there are two large fires burning in Pyrgi and Agios Georgios. Additional forces of firefighters have rushed to the area. The situation is quite worrying as the areas are inaccessible and difficult to reach.
