Train collides with car near Diavata, leaving one woman dead

A pregnant woman is dead after a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, where a train collided with a car carrying two passengers on the section of the intercity railway network near Diavata, in northern Greece.

The train had been conducting the Alexandroupoli-Thessaloniki service when the collision occured.

A team of ten firefighters with three engines rushed to the scene of the accident which occurred shortly before 3 p.m, to remove the two people who had been travelling in the car.

The pregnant woman was transferred to Ippokrateio hospital of Thessaloniki, where she pronounced dead by doctors, while the man who was driving the car, is being treated at the General Hospital of Thessaloniki 'George Papanikolaou'.
