Konstantinos Livanos has earned himself two gold medals at the 2019 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships, held in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Junior Track Cycling World Championships which is regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), are a set of world championship events for junior riders, for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling.
The young athlete from Chania, Crete, won gold in the Keirin and Sprint races, both of which are Olympic events.
Konstantinos won gold in the Men's Keirin Final ahead of Australia’s Sam Gallagher, who finished in second place and India’s Esow Alben in third.
The 18-year-old made his country proud as his achievements, the two gold medals, were Greece’s first medals at the annual Junior World Championships in over a decade.
He also finished in fourth place in the 1 km Time Trial event.
Konstantinos' two gold medals resulted in Greece finishing in third place in the medal count. Host country, Germany took first place, winning nine medals with five of them being gold.
Next year, the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships will be held in Cairo, Egypt.
Although 2020 might be too soon for Livanos to make his Olympic debut, the future of Greek cycling appears to be in good hands.
