Archbishop Makarios attends Feast Day Service of Agios Nektarios at Burwood Church

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia attended the Feast Day service of Agios Nektarios, which took place at Burwood in Sydney’s inner west on Saturday, November 9.

Hundreds of parishioners of all ages attended the service and were very pleased to meet the new Archbishop, who greeted as many people as possible.

Dignitaries in attendance were Cr John Faker, Mayor of Burwood, Ms Jodi McKay MP, Member for Strathfield and Leader of the Opposition Cr Nella Hall, Strathfield Council representing the Mayor of Strathfield Cr Antoine Doueihi, Greek Consul General in Sydney Mr Christos Karras; and his wife Ms Katia Gkikiza, Trade Commissioner of Greece in Australia.

At the conclusion of the Holy Liturgy, the Greek School children recited a poem, while Father George Liangas made a speech and presented a gift to His Eminence.

Archbishop Makarios made a speech and the Greek Consul General in Sydney Mr. Christos Karras also welcomed all the guests and parishioners.
