Greece’s Panos Triantafyllou Wins Gold at Wheelchair Fencing World Cup

Greece’s Panos Triantafyllou claimed gold on the final day of individual competition at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation's (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Amsterdam.

Triantafyllou, who won silver at Rio’s Paralympic Games emerged as the gold medallist in the men’s sabre B competition and is now one step closer to securing a spot that leads to the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

 The Greek player beat Russia's Istvan Tarjanyi 15-9 in the final and in group and classification matches, Triantafyllou has won a total of nine out of 10 matches, the most notable of which was in the semi-finals where he defeated Adrian Castro 15-9 at the Paralympic Championship in Rio.

In the group stages at this competition, Triantafyllou had five wins and one defeat, but in the rankings he was unstoppable, defeating Franco Valle 15-12, Franco Ipbe 15-8 and in the final, he defeated Tarjanyi 15-9.
