Coronavirus tally in Greece hits 45

By 4 years ago

Fourteen new cases of Coronavirus was announced by the Greek Health Ministry on Friday, taking the country's total to 45.

The director-general of the World Health Organisation has warned governments that the continued international spread of the novel coronavirus is "not a drill" and will require significant action if public health authorities are to contain the deadly outbreak.

This comes as within the past 24 hours, more than thirty-five new cases was announced in Greece.

The Greek Health Ministry stated that eleven of those people were on the same trip to Israel with the previously announced twenty-one cases. Four of them are residents of Zakynthos.

Additionally, three other people got sick from coming into contact with members who were confirmed to have coronavirus. Those include:

  • A 32 year old flight attendant who was on their flight from Tel Aviv back to Athens
  • A 60 year old woman who was sitting next to case #9 (one of the trip members) on the plane, who had also visited Israel but with a different travel group
  • A health worker who came into contact with case #9 in the hospital in Patras, due to not taking the proper precautions (no one at the hospital did because they didn't suspect the virus)

Worldwide, the number of coronavirus cases has surpassed 100,000.

Health experts warn that the number of cases will rise in the coming weeks as coronavirus continues to spread in South Korea, Japan, parts of Europe, Iran and the United States.
