Greece’s Labour and Social Affairs Minister Yiannis Vroutsis, announced an increase to supplementary pensions as of the 2nd June 2020.

Vroutsis made the claim during a media interview with SKAI television on Sunday, adding that the increase was set to benefit some 250,000 pensioners.

"A green light has been given by the Prime Minister himself," Vroutsis said, noting that the move corrected a great injustice done to the previous SYRIZA government to this group of pensioners, who will see their pensions go up by sums ranging from five to 200 euros a month, for an average increase of 99.50 euros.

On back payments of pensions, he said that when and if the back payments for main and supplementary pensions from October 1, 2019 have been paid to hundreds of thousands of pensioners, the payment will be made in a lump sum, automatically and in total for everyone.

"It will not be paid in instalments or partial payments," he clarified.
