Only four passengers tested positive for coronavirus among the 7,804 passengers who were tested at Athens International Airport in the week June 8-14, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection announced on Tuesday.
During that time period, there were 104 flights from 19 countries.
The relevant Covid-19 health protocols were immediately conducted for the 4 positive passengers.
On June 15 all passengers onboard 11 flights from foreign countries were tested. So far, the results of five flights from Amsterdam, Paris, Doha, Rome and Zurich show all samples are negative. The results of the other six flights are due soon.
As the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced over the weekend- Greece is ready to welcome tourists this summer with priority to health safety.
This message was also reiterated by the Minister of Tourism Haris Theocharis: “nothing has been left to chance as the government’s absolute priority is health safety, because protecting the health and lives of tourists and workers is in our hands.”
“Let’s prove that Greece – while remaining the most attractive tourist destination in the Mediterranean – is also one of the safest countries in the world," he stressed.
Last week, Greece’s new tourism promotion campaign for the 2020 season was showcased, which is targeted to foreign audiences and social platforms abroad, to encourage tourists to come to Greece.
At the time of writing, Greece has recorded 3,148 confirmed coronavirus cases and 185 related deaths.
In other news, an Athens prosecutor has summoned five officials at the 'Taxiarchai' clinic in Peristeri, Athens, to testify before him as suspects for criminal misconduct in the rapid spread of coronavirus among elderly patients there.
A total of 28 people (including patients, staff and visitors) were in April found infected with the novel coronavirus at the private clinic specialising in kidney disorders. Of those, 13 died, due to an alleged lack of vigilance in compliance with health protection protocols, authorities said.
According to the law, persons responsible for the death of an individual due to transmission of a virus by negligence get a 10-year jail sentence, while if death occurs for several people, the punishment is a life sentence.
