Founded by Greek-Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios, the NK Foundation – Giving Dreams A Sporting Chance has been granted funding to build a Gungahlin tennis facility in Canberra.
“For all the families in the Gungahlin region, this facility will fill the desperate need for tennis courts in the area. Youth from all walks of life will be encouraged to come and take part in our coaching programs on offer. This is the start of something great!” Nick Kyrgios posted on Facebook.
Labor MP Yvette Berry announced that the facility would include:
"Canberra has the highest rates of participation in sport across the country – we really love our sport – and tennis continues to grow with over 32,000 participants in the ACT," MP Yvette Berry posted on Facebook.
In response, Tennis ACT commented: "Thanks for your commitment Yvette. We look forward to making this community project a reality and having more people access the sport in the Gungahlin region."
"The Gungahlin tennis facility that will be the home of first physical presence of the NK Foundation - Giving Dreams A Sporting Chance in our hometown of Canberra!," the tennis player added.
The foundation will soon be offering free coaching and classes to those disadvantaged youth around Gungahlin and Australia.
Last week Kyrgios surprised patients at Queensland Children’s Hospital by taking part in a virtual visit via video chat.
