Yesterday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias spoke by telephone with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
According to the Greek Foreign Ministry, the two ministers discussed the "conditions which would allow them to meet again in the near future."
It is noted that the last telephone contact that the two foreign ministers had was on October 30 after the strong earthquake that devastated Samos and Smyrni (Σμύρνη, Turkish: İzmir).
The pair also met last month on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum. The meeting was described as “almost jovial,” with Dendias seen smiling often.
However, for all the smiles and “almost jovial” nature of the meeting, it did not take long for the provocations to begin with Çavuşoğlu spouting out Turkish propaganda during his allocated time to make a presentation at the Forum just after his meeting with Dendias.
During his presentation at the Security Forum in Bratislava, Çavuşoğlu displayed three maps.
The first was the famous map of Seville.
The second was a map with Greek and Turkish flags that according to Çavuşoğlu showed the so-called maximalist positions of Greece in the region.
The third map is that of Kastelorizo which Çavuşoğlu said is an island just 2 km from its Turkey’s shores and claims 40,000 km2 of continental shelf.
