Due to the critical blood shortage in Greece, an emergency blood drive will be held on Wednesday.

The Hellenic National Blood Donation Center is appealing to the public to come forward and make a donation of blood and/or plasma to help replenish dwindling stocks.

The center said: “The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on blood stocks in recent months has been more visible than ever as the inflow of volunteers to hospital donation services has decreased significantly, creating serious problems for patients requiring transfusions."

Masks are required when donating blood and social distancing will be enforced.

Anyone interested in donating, is urged to call 213.214.6716-726 from 8am-3pm Monday and Tuesday to book an appointment.

Before arriving, these tips are recommended:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Eat a healthy, low-fat meal within two hours ahead of your donation.

You have the chance to help the community by donating blood that could save a life.
