MP Bakoyannis' Instagram account hacked by Turks

By 3 years ago

Member of Parliament, Dora Bakoyannis, fell victim to a cyberattack as Turkish hackers temporarily took over her Instagram account.

The hackers even uploaded photos and videos.

In fact, in one of the photos they uploaded, they wrote a caption in Turkish:

"Throwing Greeks into the sea," in reference to genocidal Turkish founding father Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's Great Fire of Smyrna (Σμύρνα, Turkish: İzmir).

In September 1922, when the Greek Army had already evacuated Asia Minor after the failure of the Greco-Turkish War, Atatürk's forces set the once great city of Smyrna on fire, forcing Greek civilians to jump into the harbour to reach ships.

Thousands downed.

The Great Fire of Smyrna.

After being hacked, the New Democracy MP contacted Instagram's headquarters so that she could regain control of her account, deleting the posts made by the hackers and uploading a photo with the Greek flag.
