Çeşme returns to the central Aegean to continue illegal research

By 3 years ago

The Turkish research vessel “Çeşme” returned to the central Aegean after leaving it yesterday morning, as reported by Greek City Times.

Turkey justifies the research based off an illegal NAVTEX,  the international maritime navigational telex/notification system, issued by the Smyrna (Σμύρνα, Turkish: İzmir) station when only the Lemnos can issue such notifications in this part of the Aegean.

The Turkish ship sailed from the port of Smyrna today at noon and to return to the central Aegean.

On Tuesday, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar accused Greece of “harassing” the Çeşme – something that Athens categorically denied.
