The first case of COVID-19 was detected in a tourist who arrived in the Cretan city of Heraklion on a flight from Germany.
The tourist is the only one who tested positive for COVID-19 in the dozens of tests conducted by Greek authorities at Heraklion airport, according to Creta 24.
Now, the man must remain in quarantine for 10 days and then do a molecular test again.
It is noted that more than 300 tourists have arrived at Heraklion Airport between March 27 and April 5 with flights from Germany (Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin), the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and Switzerland (Geneva).
Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis stated to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the government's goal is to reopen to tourists on May 14 with all those countries which "we have always welcomed travelers [from]."
