A distinguished professor said that at least 70% of the population must be vaccinated for an immunity wall to be built.
"The AstraZeneca vaccine, the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, the Sputnik vaccine and one of the Chinese vaccines are exactly the same technology," stressed the Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics and Endocrinology G. Chrousos on MEGA.
"We know how good it is, what complications it has and because it is easy to prepare, it is one of those that will be used in the developing world," he said when asked about the AstraZeneca vaccine.
"The AstraZeneca vaccine is easier to make and costs less," the professor said, adding "Technology is simpler."
Asked if Greece can implement a policy to bring some vaccines in order for the process to go ahead quicker, he stressed that "the rate of refusal to be vaccinated in our country is high."
Regarding the non-administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine to people under the age of 40 in some European countries, he stressed that it is done for psychological reasons.
"We are talking about infinitesimal numbers," he said.
Asked about the vaccination of children, he said: "Until the age of 12 there are data and they are fine, but the younger the child, the less likely the child is to get sick.
"To build immunity we must reach 70% of the population," the professor continued.
"We are doing well and if those who are hesitant get the vaccine we will have reached the desired goal in early July," he added.
