Initiative for establishing the 'Day of the Greek Diaspora'

By 3 years ago

Greece’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and representative for Greeks Abroad, Kostas Vlasis, recently announced the intention of the Greek State to establish the celebration of the 'Day of the Greek Diaspora'.

"The recent celebration of the 200 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821 for liberation from the Ottoman Empire, was an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past, but also to envision the Greece of the future," he wrote in a letter to the expatriate bodies.

The purpose of the initiative is to recognise the historical role and the valuable contribution of the Greek Diaspora in the development and progress of the Modern Greek state.

"Since the founding of the modern Greek State, Greeks everywhere have been an integral part of its evolution and progress. Flesh of its flesh and part of its soul," he added.

Vlasis invites Greeks everywhere to become participants and companions in the initiative, by submitting their proposals for the date of celebration of the 'Day of the Greek Diaspora'.

“Your participation will be once again a practical proof that all together, we can achieve our great goal, which is none other than to bring the Hellenism of the Diaspora closer to the motherland”, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded.
