Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter:

"If there are threats to humanity, Yoga often gives us a way of holistic health. Yoga also gives us a happier way of life. I am sure, Yoga will continue playing its preventive, as well as promotive role in healthcare of masses."

In preparation for Yoga International Week, the Indian Embassy in Athens suggested people to "download the WHO mYoga app for authentic information on Yoga."

"It also offers interactive Yoga learning modules and practice sessions. The app is available on Google Play and App Store," the Indian Embassy added.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.
