Achaia: Satellite 'sees' more than 3,000 acres destroyed by fires

Based on satellite photography from the European environmental satellite Sentinel-2 the National Observatory of Athens has calculated that more more an 3,000 acres have been burnt by the recent fires in the prefecture of Achaia, in the western Peloponnese.

However, the number of acres damaged is expected to increase given that the fires continue.

Fires in Zeria, Aegialia on Sunday were still in progress with more than  77 fire engines mobilised along with 294-member crew, seven teams of firefighters on foot assisted by five firefighting aircraft and seven water dropping helicopters operating in the area.
