Greek shipowner Panos Laskaridis on Monday announced the donation of 1 million euros towards helping fellow citizens affected by the devastating fires as well as supporting the Fire Brigade services.
Laskaridis is the president of the Ekaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
The announcement comes just as the European Commission pledged 4 billion euros in pre-financing (2.3 billion euros in grants and 1.7 billion euros in loans), corresponding to 13% of grants and loans intended for Greece under the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism (RRF) .
In its statement, the Commission notes that Greece is one of the first countries to receive pre-financing under the RRF mechanism and stressed that "these pre-financing initiatives are the starting point for the implementation of the critical investment and reform measures outlined in the Recovery and Sustainability Plan of Greece".
