Crete: 90-year-old man arrested for starting a fire

A 90-year-old man is the culprit of the fire that broke out on Sunday morning in Apesokari of the municipality of Gortyna in Heraklion.

According to Creta Post, the elderly man went to his field in the morning in order to install irrigation hoses.

In fact, without paying much attention to the strong winds that blow in the area, he used a stove during the installation of tires that resulted in a fire.

The fire brigade was immediately notified and rushed to the scene with strong force as the blaze had quickly spread and managed and limited its spread.

Unfortunately for the 90-year-old man, he was arrested for arson due to negligence.

The corresponding administrative fine was imposed on him.
