Murder of Greek ambassador to Brazil: 31-year sentence for his wife

The wife of the Greek ambassador to Brazil,  Kyriakos Amoridis, was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his murder.

Amoridis was murdered at the end of December 2016 and his body found in the trunk of his car, which was engulfed in flames.

Françoise de Souza Oliveira, as it turned out, was related to military police officer Sergio Gomes, who participated in the murder of the Greek Ambassador.

Gomes confessed to the murder and is serving a 22-year sentence.

At the end of the trial, which lasted three days, a judge described the crime as "beastly."

A relative of the police officer had also been jailed for the case as he helped hide the body of the Greek diplomat.

He had served a one-year sentence and is now released.

The 59-year-old diplomat had served as Greece's consul in Rio de Janeiro from 2001 to 2004, and had returned to Brazil as ambassador the year he was assassinated.

He had been married to François de Souza Oliveira since 2004 and they had a daughter who was ten years old when he was murdered.
