Eva Kaili elected Vice-President of the European Parliament

Movement for Change (KINAL) MEP Eva Kaili was elected on Tuesday as Vice President of the European Parliament as a candidate of the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) party.

Kaili gathered 454 of the 690 votes total, thus securing her elected position as one of 14 European Parliament VPs in the first round of this electoral process.

KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis congratulated Kaili on social media, wishing her every success in her new duties, and so did Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

The S&D Group is represented by 145 MEPs across 26 EU countries.

WHO IS EVA KAILI?

Eva Kaili (Greek: Εύα Καϊλή; born 26 October 1978 in Thessaloniki, Greece) is a Greek politician of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) and former television news presenter who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2014.

In 1992, Kaili joined the PASOK Youth and in 2001, she was President of the School of Architecture Students' Association.

By 2002, she was already the youngest member to be elected in the Thessaloniki City Council.

Kaili is mostly known internationally, as Founder of the Melon Tech Forum in Brussels and Chair of the Future of Science and Technology Panel of the European Parliament, leading Exponential Technologies.

She was one of the "Women who Shape Brussels" and the "Tech MEPs gang" as the "leading MEPs addressing the digital revolution" by Politico Europe in 2018. She received the European Award as an MEP in 2018 for her work on the Digital Agenda for Europe.

Kaili was on the shortlist as one of the Best MEPs in 2016.

Der Spiegel called the MEP one of the best representatives of European citizens and Business Insider said she was "The most popular Greek politician in the world" with an "extremely impressive story" as "an up and coming politician with strong support among the youth."

In 2012 Der Spiegel also referred to her as a "Foresightful politician" and "brave" for her stance during the economic and political crisis of Greece, including her in its list of "People of the Year 2011."

As one of the Digital Leaders for Europe by the World Economic Forum of Davos and the Blockchain Council, she was one of the speakers in China at the Informal Group of World Economic Leaders by WEF in 2018.

Kaili is a member of the Global Council on Extended Intelligence of IEEE Standards Association and MIT Media Lab.

She is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFB) and she set up the Center for Artificial Intelligence that launched a collaboration with OECD Parliamentary Network on AI.

The Thessaloniki-born politician has ranked first for Social & Political Influence on Digital Policy and has been placed in position 13 for the politically multidimensional collaborations she develops with MEPs of other political groups and nationalities.

Kaili went to school and high school at the 1st Lyceum. She studied in the Polytechnic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to be an Architect Engineer.

Her Master of Arts at University of Piraeus, is on International and European Studies.
