Romanian Mig 21 crashes on patrol

CRASHED / On March 2nd, at 20:03 local time, a MiG-21 LanceR Romanian Air Force from 86th Air Base, carrying out an air patrol mission over land (Dobrogea), disappeared from the radar. The MiG took-off from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base 57 at 19:50 LT. State of the pilot & aircraft unknown. Local witnesses from the Cogealac area heard a loud bang. Search & rescue ops are underway.

Update / The IAR 330 helicopter with 5 people on-board sent in search of the MiG-21 also disappeared from the radar. The pilots were instructed to return to base because of bad weather. A new search & rescue mission is underway to locate the missing helicopter.
