Famous businessman Dimitris Kontominas passed away at the age of 83

Businessman Dimitris Kontominas has died at the age of 83.

Kontominas, according to Alpha, had serious health problems for a few years and in recent months was hospitalised in a private clinic.

The well-known businessman was active in security, television, movie theatres and retail, while his name was associated with Alpha.

He leaves behind a daughter and two grandchildren.

Dimitris Kontominas studied at the American University of Beirut.

He initially worked as an insurer at American Life (ALICO), while in 1969 he co-founded the insurance company Interamerican with Alexandros Tambouras.

In addition to Interamerican he has founded or acquired a number of other companies, including:

  • Interbank (acquired in 1997 and absorbed by Eurobank) .
  • Intertech.
  • The Euroclinic of Athens.
  • Novabank Bank (in 2006 it was renamed Millennium Bank and in 2013 it was acquired and absorbed by Piraeus Bank).
  • The fleet of InterJet aircraft and helicopters.
  • The organic farming company GreenFarm.
  • For the period 1998–2001 he was the owner of the football club Aris Thessaloniki.
  • For twenty years he was co-owner and later owner of Alpha TV and local radio stations of the same name in Athens and Thessaloniki.
  • The Village Roadshow Greece cinemas.
  • Channel 9 in Athens and Thessaloniki.
  • Of Mediterra Winery in Crete
