The International Day of Yoga was celebrated on Tuesday in India and dozens of countries across world, with Greece being no exception.

Although physical observance of the day was held at 75 heritage and iconic sites in India, the Indian Embassy in Athens organised an event at the iconic Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro Stadium), which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Yoga demonstrations by local Greek Yoga teachers and associations were made at the venue.

Winners of “Yoga Posture Photo Contest”, announced by the Embassy on the occasion as a curtain raiser event for IDY 2022, were felicitated by H.E. the Ambassador of India, Amrit Lugun.

Greeks and the Indian community enthusiastically participated with appreciation.

Yoga events were not only at the Kallimarmaro Stadium, with other studios and yoga groups celebrating the day in their own way.

The students of SivaOm yoga gave a demonstration of Suryanamaskar with Mantras, presented their thesis and received their graduation certificates for Level 1+2 along with having a discussion about what the SivaOm yoga community achieved in the last year and their plans for the road ahead.
