Norwegian NGO that accuses Greece of illegally arming the islands repeats Turkish propaganda

Turkish media are "celebrating" the "collusion" of the Norwegian NGO Aegean Boat Report with Ankara's positions on the issue of the Greek islands.

Recently, and in response to the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi, Aegean Boat Report accused Greece of militarising the Greek islands with American equipment, contrary to treaties and agreements.

"Filling the islands with American military equipment can be seen, by some, as a provocation, especially since it’s a violation of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne and the 1947 Paris Peace Treaty," commented the Norwegian NGO in backing up Turkish propaganda against Greece.

Both the Turkish news agency Anadolu, as well as the other media, republished the tweets by the Aegean Boat Report, repeating the complaints against Greece.

Anadolu noted: "A Norway-based NGO has supported Türkiye’s opposition to the militarization of Greek islands in the Aegean, saying such a move can be 'provocative'."

"Norway-based non-governmental organisation Aegean Boat Report interpreted the arming of Greek islands in the Aegean as a provocation. Athens is lying," writes Yeni Akit.

"Norway-based Aegean Boat Report revealed the facts. The NGO sent a message to the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, telling him: 'The arming of the Aegean islands is a challenge and Turkey is right about the refugees', commented the Sabah newspaper in an article entitled: "Norwegian NGO exposed Greece's game on the islands. Turkey is right: Lausanne is being violated."

"The Norwegian NGO Aegean Boat Report called the equipment of the Greek islands in the Aegean a challenge," writes the Greek edition of the TRT network.

At the end of 2020, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, had complained about the NGO, saying that with the use of new technologies and applications (messenger, WhatsApp, etc.), groups of illegal immigrants, who are at sea and in Greek territorial waters, were invited to Greece and informed on how to reach Greece.

From the posts of the organisation on social media, it appears that they are only concerned by illegal immigrants who enter Greek territorial waters and not within the Turkish borders.
