Opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said in an announcement on Thursday that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis "is plunging Greek society into poverty".
"There has even been an appearance of anti-theft devices on baby formula in supermarkets. Mr. Mitsotakis is also sinking democracy into a murky landscape of phone tappings. He has set up a deep state of totalitarian control of everything," the announcement said.
SYRIZA also underlined that "now that his political end is approaching, he has decided to also sink the political debate into the cesspit of extreme right insults. And he is placing those best suited to do the dirty work centre stage".
"Mr. Mitsotakis has two choices. Either he will directly reproach his deputies or he will confirm that all this is now ruling New Democracy's line and he will go to elections as the "Trump of the Balkans".
