Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople received the former President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, on Friday afternoon to mark the four-year anniversary of the granting of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of his country.
During their 90-minute meeting, Poroshenko briefed His Holiness on the situation in war-torn Ukraine, and thanked him for his unwavering support for the Ukrainian people, SKAI reported.
The Ecumenical Patriarch once again wished for an end to the war and the return of peace to Ukraine, and expressed his support for the brave Ukrainian people who with faith and determination carry out their struggle for freedom and territorial integrity.
The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalkidon, as well as other associates of the Patriarch and the former President of Ukraine.
