Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s New Democracy party is leading the Greek election race by a wide margin, followed by the leftist Syriza party, led by Alexis Tsipras.
The ruling conservative party has a lead of 41.1 percent of the vote based on about 40 percent of the ballots counted, compared to 20.1 percent for Syriza.
Sunday’s vote was held under a proportional representation system which makes it difficult for any contender to secure an outright victory, setting the stage for a second round of balloting.
The cost-of-living crisis is the biggest issue for voters choosing 300 members of parliament.
The polls opened at 7am local time (04:00 GMT) and closed at 7pm (16:00 GMT).
According to this, the parties fared as follows:
New Democracy: 37.5-41.5%
SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance: 23.5-27.5%
PASOK-KINAL: 11.5-12.5%
Communist Party: 6.5-7.5%
Greek Solution: 4.5-5.3%
MeRA25: 2.5-3.5%
Plefsi Eleftherias: 2.5-3.5%
Niki: 2.5%-3.5%
Rest of parties: 2.2%
