Violent Home Invasion Targets Elderly Greek Couple in Sydney (video)

By 12 months ago

Three armed, masked attackers broke into the home of an old Greek couple in Sydney's south on Tuesday night. They assaulted the homeowners before pillaging the premises.

The Greek man, 81, and his wife, 76, were shaken but not seriously hurt following the house invasion at Carlton at around 11.30 p.m., according to The St.George & Sutherland Shire Leader.

While the other two invaders raced upstairs to discover the 81-year-old man in bed, according to police, one of the intruders allegedly restrained the 76-year-old woman who was sitting on the couch. They allegedly demanded money while putting a gun to his head, and the only way they stopped was when the man played dead.

According to footage made available by Nine News, the man was Dimos Scoullis, the owner of Hellenic Patisserie and Gelato Bar in Marrickville.

Police said the invaders fled the scene, stole the couple’s manual car and crashed and escaped on foot after being unable to drive it.

Emergency crews arrived at the Carlton home at about 11 pm following reports of the invasion, where the 81-year-old man was found with minor injuries.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital for treatment.

The 76-year-old woman did not sustain injuries but has been hospitalised as a precautionary measure.

They have been living at their Carlton home for more than 50 years.

A crime scene has been established while forensic squads and detectives conduct an examination of the site. NSW Police have also launched an investigation to probe the incident.

As enquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
