By 10 months ago

Knossos, and other archaeological sites around Crete, will close for five hours today due to heatwave Kleon.

As Chief Warden Nikos Papadakis told Radio Crete, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Heraklion announced in a statement that archaeological sites will remain closed from noon today from 12 noon to 5 pm.

Especially for Knossos said that it would work normally, but today's very high temperatures finally led to the decision to close at specific times, while agents and the relevant tourist agencies have already been informed.

According to Mr. Papadakis, during the summer months, an effort is made to ensure that the people who flock by the thousands do not wait more than 20 minutes under the sun before entering the archaeological site.

It is noted that more than 5,000 people visit Knossos daily, and this June, the number of visitors increased by approximately 12,700 compared to the same month in 2022.
