Due to rising temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, authorities have mandated the closure of the Acropolis from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. This temporary closure during the hottest hours of the day has been a recurring measure over the past two weeks due to Greece's ongoing heatwave.
Many areas of the country have experienced scorching temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius. Wednesday is predicted to be another hot day, but relief from the extreme weather is expected to come starting Thursday.
