They were aboard an inflatable boat at risk of sinking, prompting a rescue operation - Among the rescued were a woman and three minors

On Friday, the Moroccan navy rescued 67 migrants who were on board an inflatable boat off the coast of Tarfaya (southwest), as reported by the Moroccan News Agency (MAP).

According to a relevant announcement, the inflatable boat was at risk of sinking, and a rescue operation was conducted to save those on board. The rescued individuals, including a woman and three minors, "received first aid on a Royal Navy ship before being transferred to the Laayoune port" in Western Sahara.

Non-governmental organizations often report shipwrecks - with unofficial estimates of dozens or even hundreds of casualties - in the territorial waters of Morocco and Spain, as well as in international waters.

Moroccan authorities claim to have thwarted 26,000 attempts of irregular migration in the first five months of 2023.
