Turkey Criticizes European Parliament's Plea for Cooperation on Russia Sanctions

By 8 months ago

Turkey has expressed its dissatisfaction with the European Parliament's plea regarding cooperation in enforcing sanctions against Russia. As Turkey and the European Union aim to revitalize their membership talks, Ankara has criticized the insistence on joining in punitive measures against Russia.

Both the EU and the US have been pressuring Turkey to join their campaign in punishing Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. However, Turkey has decided to adhere strictly to the binding sanctions imposed by the United Nations. The country refuses to participate in any additional sanctions efforts, fearing that doing so could hinder its self-declared mediation endeavors between Kyiv and Moscow.
