By 8 months ago

The Greek government held an inter-ministerial meeting on Friday at the Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Ministry, chaired by Minister Vassilis Kikilias, about the upcoming storm front expected to hit the country in the coming week.

The meeting focused on the adverse weather conditions expected to begin affecting Greece on Monday at Thessaly, central Greece, which was severely stricken by the recent storm 'Daniel'.

Participants in the panel highlighted the need for absolute readiness of the entire state apparatus, as well as of regional authorities and local government authorities, against the impending extreme weather.

State Minister Akis Skertsos and deputy ministers to the prime minister Thanassis Kontogeorgis and Yiannis Bratakos as well as representatives of the other relevant ministries, of the Hellenic Police, the Fire Brigade, the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, regional authorities and meteorologists all took part in the meeting.

Another such meeting will be held over the weekend, as the weather front approaches the country.

An emergency weather forecast issued on Friday by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) speaks of heavy rainfall and storms over western, central and northern Greece starting Monday, before spreading to more areas by mid-next week.
