The Greek Minister of Defence met on Thursday with the Australian Ambassador in Greece, Alison Duncan. Dendias was also the former Minister of Foreign Affairs in the previous New Democracy government.

During their meeting, Dendias and Duncan discussed the strategic partnership between the two countries, their support for Ukraine, and other matters of bilateral interest.

Dendias and Duncan both referred to the deep cultural and historical connection that binds Greece and Australia, born of over 100 years of Greek migration to Australia and as allies in World War II, where Australian soldiers fought alongside Greeks against the Germans.

They underscored the bond between Australia and Greece as a solid and enduring relationship. In a warm diplomatic exchange, Duncan offered Dendias ANZAC biscuits, while the Minister of Defense suggested they had Greek coffee.

Alison Duncan has since July been serving as the Australian Ambassador to Greece and Romania – and the Ambassador-designate to Bulgaria.

The career diplomat said she will support the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s efforts to strengthen a strong bond between Greece and the Greek-Australian community.
