Lysandros Tsilidis, president of the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist and Travel Agencies, has highlighted the impact of cruise ships on overcrowding, stating that at least 30 percent of passengers on these vessels have already purchased tickets to visit the Acropolis.
Many visitors have shared their experiences of the crowded conditions at the site. One TripAdvisor user suggested avoiding days when cruise ships are present, as it tends to be particularly busy and hot during those times. Despite the crowds, however, numerous tourists still recommend visiting the Acropolis, considering it to be a must-see attraction and one of the wonders of the world.
For those planning a visit, Responsible Travel advises going during the spring or autumn seasons, when there are fewer tourists and milder weather conditions. However, if high season is the only option, it is advisable to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid long queues and excessive heat, as the Acropolis remains the country's most popular site.
Considering that cruise ship passengers usually arrive around 9am and need to return to their ships by evening, visiting the Acropolis in the late afternoon is also recommended.
