According to the Jerusalem Post, Shaul Greenglick, 26, appeared on TV on December 3 while on leave from his mobilisation in Israel's war against Hamas, and dressed in a military uniform, he sang a popular ballad and was accepted into the next round of the Eurovision 2024 selection process.

One of the judges, Keren Peles, told Greenglick on the stage: "I'm happy to see you wearing a uniform, because it's reassuring that someone like you is in uniform. I would be happy to see you representing Israel at Eurovision."
But Peles, writing after Greenglick's death in clashes in northern Gaza was announced on Tuesday, said he had left the show because of his army duties.

"Now I'm living an old dream, of fighting for the country...A new, different dream will have to wait a bit."
Europe's premier singing competition will be hosted in May in Malmo, Sweden.
