Forty Pakistanis and 10 Georgians have their asylum requests rejected - Deportation imminent

By 3 months ago

Forty Pakistanis and 10 Georgians will be returned to their country of origin after their asylum requests were rejected, Greece's migration and asylum ministry announced on Wednesday.

Greek authorities conducted an operation on Tuesday with Cyprus's participation to process the asylum requests submitted in the last 48 hours immediately at the Amygdaleza pre-departure centre.

The ministry's Asylum service completed the checks, and 50 asylum seekers will be returned to their country.

According to the ministry, the return of rejected asylum seekers is the new major challenge in illegal migration, and the member-states are obliged to intensify the relevant processes to protect the credibility of national asylum systems by ensuring that only those entitled to asylum can remain in Europe.

According to Eurostat, Greece ranks fourth for the absolute number of forced and voluntary returns, before other southern European countries with many more arrivals, such as Italy and Spain.
