3.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Rhodes, Greece

A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Rhodes, Greece, just before midnight local time on Sunday night, March 17th, 2024.

The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported the quake, which hit at a moderate depth of 44.2 km. Seismologists are analyzing data, and the exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth may be revised in the coming hours or minutes.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) listed the quake at a slightly lower magnitude of 2.9. Towns closest to the epicenter, like Pedi (6 km away) and Symi (8 km away), likely experienced very weak shaking. Shaking was likely not felt in places further away, including Kremasti (27 km), Ialysos (29 km), Rhodes (32 km), Faliraki (38 km), Afantou (40 km), Marmaris (43 km), and Kos (65 km).
