Coast Guard Rescues 38 Migrants South of Gavdos

At 01:30 AM on Thursday a cargo ship spotted a vessel with 38 people on board, 17 nautical miles south of Gavdos, Greece. The migrants boarded the cargo ship, and were then transferred to a Coast Guard lifeboat.

The Coast Guard lifeboat transported the migrants to Chora Sfakion and then to Chania. According to the Coast Guard, none of the migrants required medical assistance.

The nationalities and origins of the migrants are unknown, as is the reason for their migration. The cargo ship that initially spotted the migrants is also not identified in the report.

The Coast Guard is continuing to monitor the situation and is working to provide assistance to the migrants.
