The Federal Court of Australia has welcomed eight new appointments, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the judicial system's efficiency and inclusivity.
Professor James Stellios FAAL FASSA of 6 St James Hall Chambers has been appointed as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, New South Wales Registry. His appointment, effective from 19 December 2024, was announced today by The Honourable Mark Dreyfus KC MP, the Attorney-General of Australia.
Admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 1995, Professor Stellios was later called to the New South Wales Bar in 2013. Renowned for his expertise in constitutional law, he is regarded as one of Australia’s leading barristers in this field.
Professor Stellios has an extensive academic and professional background, including serving as the Head of the Australian National University Law School. He is a Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Law and the Australian Social Sciences Academy. Throughout his distinguished career, he has published numerous influential works, including Zines and Stellios' The High Court and the Constitution and The Federal Judicature: Chapter III of the Constitution.
