Greece has topped the list of countries most exposed to malware attacks, according to a report released Monday by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky.
The findings highlight the growing prevalence of cyber threats as global malware detections surged by 14% in 2024, reaching an alarming 467,000 daily attacks.
In Greece alone, Kaspersky shielded users from 15 million Internet threats. These included general exploitations, password theft, spyware, financial and banking malware, and ransomware. Alarmingly, the country also saw a 21.5% increase in Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) attacks compared to 2023, raising concerns about remote work vulnerabilities and corporate cybersecurity.
“These statistics reaffirm our warnings that Greece is as attractive to cybercriminals as other global markets. With the rise of digital transformation, both individuals and businesses must adopt more robust security measures to stay protected,” said Vassilis Vlachos, Channel Manager for Kaspersky in Greece and Cyprus.
The report, based on anonymised data from Kaspersky Security Network, indicates a high danger level in Greece due to frequent activations of the company’s Web Anti-Virus software to counter malware. Experts underscore the urgent need for increased vigilance and stronger security infrastructure as digital reliance grows.
