Greece's presidential election is headed to a second round after no candidate secured the required 200 votes in parliament today. Konstantinos Tasoulas, the nominee of the ruling New Democracy (ND) party, received the most votes with 160. The breakdown is as follows:
- Konstantinos Tasoulas (ND): 160 votes (156 ND MPs + 4 Independents - 2 formerly ND, 1 formerly Hellenic Solution (ElLy), 1 formerly Spartiates)
- Louka Katseli (SYRIZA-PS): 40 votes (26 SYRIZA-PS MPs + 11 Course of Freedom (NA) MPs + 3 Independents - 2 formerly SYRIZA-PS, 1 formerly European Realistic Disobedience Front (PE))
- Tasos Giannitsis (PASOK-KINAL): 34 votes (31 PASOK-KINAL MPs + 3 Independents - 1 formerly PASOK-KINAL, 2 formerly SYRIZA-PS)
- Kostas Kyriakou (Niki): 14 votes (10 Niki MPs + 4 Independents - all formerly Spartiates)
The next vote will take place on January 31.
